Poker In The Weeds
Do weeds and poker get along?
Apparently so for poker blogger Derek McGuire who is the brother of another poker follower Pauly (the dude behind the Tao of Poker).
Derek, who works for an insurance company at Wall Street, claims Pauly taught him how to play poker and now he's "kicking his ass in heads up play. I hope to share my experiences as a new player to the poker scene," he says.
His blog entries are mostly short and mainly describes his poker escapades for the day. Derek's favorite poker venues include Foxwoods in Connecticut and the Excalibur in Las Vegas, he also plays online. He's very active in the tournament circuit and hobnobs with many poker greats and celebrities.
We don't know if he likes to smoke weed while playing, though. But that would be quite a sight.
Poker in The Weeds' most recent entries are dominated by Derek's day-to-day account of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) tournament event. Of course, if you're a serious poker player, it's almost a sacrilege to miss the WSOP.
Here are some of his poker musings:
"Phil Hellmuth is one lucky mofo . . . he won Event #34 ($1,000 No Limit Hold'em with Rebuys) last night and took home $631,863. He also tied Johnny "Motherfuckin" Chan and Doyle Brunson for the most number of WSOP bracelets with 10."
"I was a lucky mofo after that knock out. Shortly afterwards, my A-A held up in a monster three way pot. I went up against K-K and Q-Q and actually won the hand! Woohooo!"
