The Tao of Poker Blog

The Tao of Poker blog is the creation of Pauly McGrupp, a writer from New York City who left his job on Wall Street to pursue a career in the entertainment industry.

It all started with the Tao of Pauly blog where he runs a series of blogs where about the " Last 5 Books I Saw People Reading on the Subway..." When he started playing tournament poker and going to Vegas for the poker scene, it was inevitable that he will write about our favorite card game.

Tao Poker - Poker Blogger

"Although you will not find specific information on poker theory on this blog you will be entertained with a steady flow of poker related humor where I weave philosophy, politics, pop culture, and gambling into my entries," the author says.

True enough, the Tao of Poker is worthy read. His minute by minute coverage of the 2006 World Series of Poker (with photos to boot) makes one imagine this dude going around the tables with his laptop on hand. Typing every detail he could collect. Like a scribe armed with a pen and paper in olden times.

Here are some of his thought-provoking tales on the WSOP and poker in general:

"Poker is big business. Just look at all the numerous ads on the poker tables. Televised poker is even bigger business. Online poker is such a tremendous cash cow that our Government is threatening to shut it down unless they get a fat cut. And the slanted wealth at the WSOP is both enticing and sickening in the same breath..."

"There are 45 players left in the WSOP championship. That's all I care about at this point. If you gave any of the remaining players a knife, they'd happily slit the throats of their tablemates. I would for $12 million. I'd do it for a lot less."

"Playing online poker is the post-modern version of compulsive masturbation...We are getting satisfaction and instant gratification by ourselves. Playing online poker is an isolationist activity and to most people, it's not as cool of a hobby as hang gliding or running with the bulls in Pamplona."

Pauly also writes for Poker Player Newspaper and Professional-Poker.com. His other articles have been published on Poker TV.com and Poker Magazine.com.

He's also the author of five novels and two screenplays writing under the pen name Tenzin McGrupp. His blog announced that he's currently working on a new book about Las Vegas, which will most probably include many of his adventures at the recent WSOP tournament.
