The European Poker Tour
The setting was idyllic for the Pokerstars.com European Poker Tour (EPT) San Remo.
From the 1st to 5th of April, poker action was held in the Casino San Remo, set on the Mediterranean Coast of north-western Italy. And true to form, players from all over the world gathered for the EPT to take advantage of the location and of course, the world class poker.
Whether through satellites or the $5,000 buy in for the No Limit Hold’Em main event, the field did not disappoint. The final table consisted of William Thorson from Sweden, Erik Koskas and Antony Lellouche, both from France, Dag Palovic from Slovakia and Marcus Bower and Jason Mercier from the United States.
Finally, the hometown favorites had a great presence at the final table with the young Dario Minieri and Gregory Genovese filled in the final seats of the final table.
Although backed by the hometown crowd the Italians, although having played extremely well, did not take home the title. Instead, a young 21 year old by the name of Jason Mercier (a PokerStars qualifier) from Florida did when he won head’s up play against France’s Antony Lellouche. His AQ ended up beating Antony’s pocket 7’s.
For Jason Mercier, the EPT San Remo only having been Jason’s second live tournament in his life, he earned himself a nice paycheck of $1,340,867 plus a seat into the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo next week.
Overall the Pokerstars.com European Poker Tour was a great step for the young career of Jason Mercier. Look for him in the next EPT stop- The Monte Carlo Grand Final being held from April 12-17, 2008.
