The 2008 World Series of Poker knows Karma

The WSOP probably believes in karma now.

If this is what good karma does to you, every poker player should start donating to charity more often. Or at least, that is what Barry Greenstein has led us to believe after collecting his third championship bracelet at Event No.26, the $1,500-buyin, Razz tournament at the 2008 World Series of Poker.

Barry Greenstein has simply been flexing his muscles at the 2008 WSOP. This is his second final table, having finished in third place at the $5,000 with re-buy No Limit Deuce to Seven Lowball Draw Event.

The former Symantec software developer has now accumulated around $6 million in career winnings. With that kind of money, it is no wonder that the so-called Robin Hood of poker can afford to donate his tournament winnings to charities.

The Razz tournament attracted a total of 413 players and a $618,345 prize pool. As with other less known poker games, meaning NOT Texas Hold’em, players found themselves facing a relatively small but tough field peppered with poker pros including Andy Bloch, Men ‘’The Master’’ Nguyen, Vanessa Rousso, Doyle Brunson, defending champion Katja Thater, Greg Raymer and Huck Seed.

In the end, Barry Greenstein found himself heads up with Chris Klodnicki who put up a valiant effort, even doubling up several times. But it was Greenstein’s night as he methodically chipped away at Klodnicki’s stack. Come to think about it, it was over some time ago as Greenstein just took the lead when it came down to three-handed poker play and never looked back.

Klodnicki won $97,389 for his second place finish while Greenstein added another $157,619 to his already massive bank account.

For poker aficionados who just can’t be bothered remembering useless trivia, Greenstein’s career highlights include winning the 2005 World Series of Poker $1,500 Buy-in Pot-Limit Omaha Event and 2004 World Series of Poker No-limit Deuce to Seven Draw Event. He also won the 2004 World Poker Tour Jack Binion World Poker Open $10,000 No Limit Hold’em Main Event.

And oh yeah, he also mentored and dated Mimi Tran.
