Team PokerStars Pro Betrand “ElkY” Grospellier Wins the 2008 PokerStars Carribean Adventure
1,000+ poker players were basking in the Carribean sun and sand to take part in the 2008 PokerStars Carribean Adventure. After countless satellites and on-line qualifiers at PokerStars, it was all down to five days of heart-stopping No-Limit Texas Hold’em poker action for the 2008 PokerStars Carribean Adventure.
In the end, it was Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, a member of Team PokerStars, who became the tournament champion of the 2008 PokerStars Carribean Adventure.
It was a tough field, full of aggressive players and seasoned pro’s. With ElkY going into the final table second in chips, he was able to put pressure on his opponents, knocking out five players in all, including Day Five starting chip leader David ‘The Dragon’ Pham.
By the time play got to heads-up, between ElkY and California-based internet pro Hafiz Khan, both had similar sized stacks but it was all over in just a few hands. Kahn pushed all-in on a stone-cold bluff with 9-3 off-suit and was called by ElkY, holding 8-8. The pocket pair held up and Team PokerStars Pro member Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier was crowned the 2008 PCA Champion. For his victory, ElkY takes home the first prize of $2,000,000, making this by far the biggest cash in the 26-year old Frenchman’s career. Khan was awarded $1,094,976 for his second place finish.
The event attracted 1,136 players, most of which qualified on PokerStars, and was one of the largest ever fields outside of the US, generating a massive prize pool of $8,594,976. The venue for the tournament was the luxurious Atlantis Resort and Casino, an ideal place for players to unwind after some intense, but entertaining poker.
