Bodog Poker Opem Results and Updates
Having begun on March 3, the Inaugural Bodog Poker Open (BPO) is now well underway. Filled with poker professionals and amateurs alike, the play on the virtual felt has been nothing short of fantastic. This week long online poker tournament includes 5 preliminary events and ends with the Texas Hold’Em No Limit Main Event on Sunday March 9. Here is an update on the results thus far.
Event # 1 was played on March 3 and was a $250 + $20 buy-in No Limit Hold’Em tournament. With 377 players battling it out and a prize pool totaling $104,250, russostreet prevailed as the victor. Not a bad feat considering the final 3 players consisted of himself and Team Bodog players Evelyn Ng and Josh Arieh. Rusostreet earned his $26,062.50 first prize and a seat to the Main Event by beating out Evelyn in heads up play. Rusostreet’s Ah-8c held up against Evelyn’s As-3c after they both flopped top pair on the board.
Event #2 played on March 4, was a 6 handed No Limit Hold’Em tournament. It consisted of a $300 + $25 buy-in, 249 players and an $84,700 prize pool. Again, Team Bodog players like Evelyn Ng, Josh Arieh and David Williams were among the competitors which made for a very strong spirited game. Outlasting and outplaying them and the rest of the field, however, was a Bodog regular- 3pounder. Having won almost a quarter of a million dollars from online Bodog Tournaments, 3pounder earned himself another $23,292.50 to add to his already impressive winnings total.
Event #3 of the Bodog Poker Open was a No Limit re-buy tournament. With another great prize pool of $102,800, this $100+10 buy-in, 270 player tournament was won by another Bodog regular online player PckAces. This regular of cash games and sit-and-go’s earned his $28,270 first prize, plus a seat in the Main Event, by beating ibackitup. With a flop of Qc-6c-10c, PckAces’ Qs-2h held up against ibackitup’s 10s-Kh, earning him the victory.
Event #4 was a pot limit hold’em format played on Thursday, March 6. Again filled with a roster of poker pros like David Williams, Josh Arieh and Jean-Robert Ballande, this 185 player field was a tough one. In the end, the winner of this $200 +$15 buy-in tournament was won by foldpreflop85. The chips were almost even in heads up play and after a hard fought battle of almost 60 hands, foldpreflop85 earned his first place finish against shipthechezz (and a cool $14,100 plus a seat to the main event).
The final preliminary event was played on Friday, March 7 (Event #5). This Limit Hold’Em, $150 + $10 buy-in tournament was filled with familiar names who had played in previous BPO preliminary events over the past week. In fact, rusostreet, 1st place finisher of event #1, made the final table again. And although he didn’t repeat a 1st place finish, he placed 9th and took home some more prize money. In the end, bigcatfish earned the win, battling HB_HITMAN in heads up, and earning himself a seat to the Main Event plus his first place prize of $10,830.
Thus far, the 2008 Inaugural Bodog Poker Open has been a tremendous success. With a great competitive online field of players, coupled with generous prize pools, this poker tournament will no doubt leave its mark in the online tournament world.
