Search engine giant Yahoo! has announced it will launch its own real money online poker room hosted at yahoo.co.uk. The site is a partnership between Yahoo! and St. Minver Ltd., a gaming group located in Gibraltar. The poker site will be a part of the International Poker Network owned and operated by Sweden’s Boss Media AB.

The Yahoo! UK & Ireland Games Web site also supports real money online Bingo.

With this development, Yahoo! becomes the first of the “Internet Giants” to be interested in breaking into the lucrative online gambling market. Both Party Poker and Poker Stars stated in the past that the real competition starts once these “giants” enter the arena.

While AOL runs online poker, it is a “play money” only site, seriously affecting its reach and player skill levels.

U.S. players are not currently accepted due to the prevailing Internet Gambling Ban law that was passed late last year
