Team PokerStars To Visit The Philippines

pokermon.jpg It’s the wet season right now in the Philippines, which means that there are frequent rains, thunderstorms & typhoons. It sounds like horrible weather, but it’s perfect for surfing since the waves are getting much bigger. Bigger waves, bigger surf. But surfing the Philippine waves is not the reason why Team Pokerstars is visiting the Philippines. I even doubt if the gargantuan WSOP Main Event Champion Chris Moneymaker can fit on a surfboard.

PokerStars, the largest on-line poker site in the world, will be visiting the Philippines as part of their Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) to help promote the growing gambling sport of poker. The launching event of the APPT will be held on August 23 to 26 at the Hyatt Hotel and Casino Manila in the Philippines. The next event is scheduled for the end of September at the Sheraton Wlkerhill Hotel and Casino in Seoul, South Korea.

Sarne Lightman, co-founder of the PokerStars APPT is excited about the opportunity to travel in exotic Asia.

“One of the most exciting aspects of being a poker player is the incredible travel opportunities it offers. Every year, Pokerstars sends thousands of poker players to events across Europe, the United States and the Caribbean. The launch of the PokerStars APPT brings a whole new dimension to poker in Asia and marks poker’s emergence into a truly global sport,” explains Lightman.

“Poker is still at an early stage in many of the countries we hope to visit with the PokerStars APPT,” said Jeffrey Haas, President and co-founder of the PokerStars APPT. “But for those forward-thinking authorities that embrace the opportunities it offers, the APPT also promises to kick-start a whole new type of tourism in the region.

he APPT tournaments will be the first major events of their kind in Korea and the Philippines, and we believe players from all over the world will come to take part.”

Some of the famous poker personalities expected to come to the Philippines for the APPT include 2003 WSOP Main Event Champion Chris Moneymaker, 2004 WSOP Main Event Champion Greg Raymer, 2005 WSOP Main Event Champion Joseph Hachem and 3-time WSOP bracelet winner Daniel Negreanu - all of them are part of Team PokerStars.

There are several on-line satellites to the big tournament of the APPT at PokerStars. The buy-in is expected to be at US$2,500 with a pot that could reach as much as half a million dollars.
