Asia Pacific Poker Tour Final Table Kicks Off Today
$180,000 awaits the champion of the Pokerstars.net 2007 Asia Pacific Poker Tour Main Event.
Pokerstars.net inaugurated its Asia Pacific Poker Tour in the Hyatt Casino and Hotel in Manila just before the weekend began. The highlight of the Asia Pacific Poker Tour was the No Limit Texas Hold’em Main Event, which featured a buy-in of $2,500, a prize pool that reaches nearly $600,000 and three days of awesome tournament poker.ÂÂ
Pokerstars pros like 2005 WSOP Main Event Champion Joe Hachem and 2004 WSOP Player Of The Year Daniel Negreanu were among the big names of the 255 poker afficionados representing 30+ countries who entered into the event. However, it seems like jet lag and too much Manila action found Hachem and Negreanu unable to make the cut for the final table which kicks off today (August 26) at 2PM Philippines time.
24 players were paid a share of the $600,000 prize pool for their survival success, but the real big score would be the first place finish, the title of 2007 APPT Manila Main Event Champion  and a $180,000 prize.
10 players remain for the final table: Van Marcus, Roger Spets, Nicholas Bamman, Derick Hernandez, Steve Junhee Yea, Ira Blumenthal, Kazuhiro Sato, Bas van Liere, Maor Feldinger and Brett Parise. Van Marcus will go into the final table as chip leader. None of the Pokerstars pros or Pokerstars sponsored players are in contention like Vanessa Rousso, Manlee Wan, Daniel Schreiber, Guillame Patry and Masa Kagawa.
Derick Hernandez is the only Filipino to make it to the final table, and will look to home support to cheer him on to the championship. However, there’s still a lot of poker to be played.
Pokerstars Tournament Director Danny McDonagh, who has been overseeing the APPT Main Event for the past 3 days, will be overseeing the final table. Meanwhile, APPT President Jeffrey Haas is standing by to give out the title and the top prize once the tournament wraps up.
With the biggest prize pool ever in Philippine shores, the final table of the 2007 Asia Pacific Poker Tour in Manila looks to be an exciting day for Philippine poker. Pokerstars.net will be jetting off to Seoul, South Korea and to Sydney, Australia to continue the Asia Pacific Poker Tour.
