Phil Gordon Issues $1 Million Challenge

phil-gordon01.jpgPRNewswire/ — One year. One million dollars. That’s the challenge issued by the Cancer Research and Prevention Foundation (CRPF) and Poker Champion Phil Gordon, who are teaming up to support cancer prevention research and education programs.

The “I’ll Raise You a Million Challenge,” an exciting new fund raising campaign, was launched Thursday. It challenges America to raise $1 million in one year and help the Foundation reach its ultimate goal of a cancer-free future.

Led by CRPF Board Member and Poker Champion Phil Gordon, the campaign expands Gordon’s extensive fund raising efforts of the last several years on behalf of the Foundation. Gordon will continue to raise funds at poker tournaments and speaking engagements, as well as through exclusive offers for his much sought-after poker “how-to” books and DVDs, available through CRPF’s Web site.

“People who know me know that I play to win, and I love a challenge. And there is no bigger challenge than the fight against cancer. I’m in this fight to win and I truly believe the best way to make a real difference is to support the Cancer Research and Prevention Foundation’s work in cancer prevention. That’s why I’m challenging Americans to help me raise one million dollars by 2007 to support the Foundation’s programs,” said Gordon.

People who want to get involved can go online at preventcancer.org and make a donation. When they do, they will receive one of Phil Gordon’s autographed books or DVDs. Or they can donate through the Foundation’s special events, such as Sporting Clays or Birdies for Charity, or if they are active poker players, they can go to badbeatoncancer.org to make a pledge.

“We are thrilled to continue working with Phil, and we believe this is a unique way to not only raise needed funds, but to also call attention to the fact that prevention is the most promising weapon we have in the war against cancer,” said Carolyn Aldige, president and founder of the Cancer Research and Prevention Foundation.

E-blasts and the Foundation Web site will also chart the campaign’s progress and keep fans informed on the status of reaching the goal and feature streaming video of events, as well as Gordon’s personal blog entries from the road as he travels from coast to coast.
